SAMC Institutional Ethics Committee
Sushrutha Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital authorized the formation of its Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) for Biomedical and Health Research in 2020. The committee was formulated following the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) & Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) guidelines, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines for ASU (Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani) drugs.
The primary mandate of the SAMC&H-IEC is to protect the rights, safety, and well-being of human participants involved in biomedical research. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are strictly followed to facilitate smooth functioning and clear, unambiguous instruction in accordance with ICMR Guidelines 2006, Schedule 'Y' of the Drugs and Cosmetic Act 1940, and WHO Operating Guidelines.
Regular meetings are organized at least twice a year (and as needed) to assess postgraduate synopses, faculty research proposals, and student projects requiring ethical clearance.
